Tri-County CAP: From Peril to Promise

In December of 2012, Tri-County CAP was in crisis: its financial conditions were dire and its ability to provide critical services in the region was in jeopardy. The Charitable Trust Unit of the Attorney General’s Office intervened, appointing a Special Trustee to stabilize activities.
Today, Tri-County CAP has a new board, new management, and has largely recovered from its financial crisis with a new strategic plan to guide them through 2021.
How did they do it? What safeguards were put in place to ensure history doesn’t repeat itself? What challenges does Tri-County CAP still face, and how are they being addressed? How have their relationships with government, funders, and community partners evolved through the organization’s recovery? What have they learned about nonprofit sustainability that you can use at your organization?
