Road Toll to Benefit Senior Meals

Picture if you will, an elderly person living alone, surrounded by memories. Although they can no longer cook for themselves, they can still boil water for tea and get around the house with the aid of a cane. This person is determined to stay in their home for as long as possible. North Country Senior Meals/Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program helps make this possible for them and many other homebound elderly residents in the Berlin, Gorham, and Milan areas.

Thirty-three thousand, eight hundred eighty-one hundred meals were delivered last year to 221 homebound seniors by caring and dedicated individuals. Often times a Meals on Wheels deliverer is the only person our homebound elderly will have contact with. This program is about more than just providing a hot nutritious meal. Those who deliver these meals also check on the elderly clients who live alone to ensure they are okay. This contact is often more important than the meal.

Our elderly population is growing and more and more seniors will do what they can to continue living independently in their homes, where they have lived for years. Senior Meals/Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program will play a major role in helping them to achieve this goal, but not without your help.

On November 23, Meals on Wheels will hold its annual Road Toll fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year’s event raised $1091.00 and organizers hope to beat that amount at this year’s event. The elderly population in the Berlin, Gorham and Milan areas are your neighbors who need these services. Your donations during this event will make a crucial difference in their lives.
