Annual Caregiver Retreat
Alzheimer’s Health Care Services and the ServiceLink Resource Center
of Coos County, projects of North Country Elder programs, announce their
Annual Caregiver Retreat. The retreat is designed for both caregivers of
their loved ones at home and professional providers.
This year’s retreat will be conducted in two Friday afternoon
sessions. The first is Friday May 1, 2009 at the Senior Center in Berlin
610 Sullivan St. Berlin NH, with registration at 1:00 pm and welcome at
1:15 pm. The May 1st speaker will be Claudia Malo ADC, CDP. Claudia is a
nationally certified activity director and a certified dementia
practitioner who resides in Twin MT. She is currently the program
Director at the Birches of Concord. She also partnered with the Tampa
Bay chapter of the Alzheimer’s association and has adopted Dr. Cameron
Camp’s Montessori concept for memory impaired individuals.
The following session will be Friday May 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the same
location and will feature Norine Elliott, ARNP. Norine has worked in the
field of psychiatric nursing for 32 years in a variety of roles: nurse
psychotherapist, psychiatric nurse practitioner and educator. She is
presently a professor of Nursing at White Mountains Community college.
Both of these programs are at no cost to attendees.

Facility.
Mission: To maintain the dignity and assist individuals suffering
with Alzheimer’s Disease
and related dementias, and to maximize the functional independence and personal
dignity of
individuals suffering with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Services provided:
-Specialized activities for the individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a
related dementia
-A hot noon meal is available for a donation of $2 per person & provided
by Senior Meals / Senior Center
-Home assessments/care management
-Nursing care plan tailored to meet each participants physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual needs
-Help with nursing home referrals
-Lending library
-Referrals
-Educational trainings
-Caregiver/family support groups, 4th Tuesday of every month, 6:00 to 7:30 pm

The individual who attends the respite facility can receive services
such as
*nail & foot care *vital signs (BP, T, P, R) *blood sugars *a nursing care plan tailored to meet their physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual needs.
To support the caregiver, we offer caregiver/family support groups,
counseling and education about the disease and tips on coping with
behaviors associated with this disease.
Caregivers will be comforted knowing their loved one is in a safe
and friendly environment with a staff that specializes in
Alzheimer’s care. This includes Registered Nurses,
Licensed Nurses Assistants and a Consulting Physician.
